On Tuesday May 9th and Wednesday May 10th, CLIMB staff along with staff from The Baddour Center, our sister organization, participated in a two-day Person-Centered Planning (PCP) Training offered on our campus. CLIMB had six staff members participate in the training including the Executive Director, Program Director and DSPs.
The training was taught by Courtney Williams from the University of Southern Mississippi. Courtney is the Program Director of Person-Centered Practices at the university and travels all over the state of Mississippi doing PCP training. The training was a wonderful experience for the staff to learn new person centered approaches to serve adults with intellectual disabilities. Through the training we learned how to conduct PCP meetings that include identifying what is important “to” the individual, what is important “for” the individual, how to provide meaningful lives, and how to identify and work through issues while keeping the individual at the center of their own life.
Some of the different topics, skills, and practices that were taught in the training included:
- Fixing vs. Support
- 2 Minute Drill
- Relationship Map
- Integrated Support Star
- Working/Not Working
- 4 +1 Questioning
- Learning Log
- Communication Chart
- Donut
- Good Day/Bad Day
We are grateful to Courtney for sharing her knowledge, experience, and time with us.
