Cory’s Corner: Awesome Austin

Did you know that October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month?

According to Department of Labor’s website, “the theme for NDEAM 2021, ‘America’s Recovery: Powered by Inclusion,’ reflects the importance of ensuring that people with disabilities have full access to employment and community involvement during the national recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.” (Quote from: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/odep/initiatives/ndeam)

While CLIMB is not a vocational service provider, we encourage families to seek the best fit for their loved one. Sometimes that means tapping into additional resources that the state of Mississippi offers, such as Mississippi’s Department of Rehabilitative Services (https://www.mdrs.ms.gov/VocationalRehab/Pages/default.aspx).

We encourage you to follow along the employment discussions on social media using #NDEAM. However, this month we at CLIMB are taking an opportunity to give a shout out to one of our Day Services – Adult participants, Austin, who was recognized back in March for inclusion in local theater and his church.

We are so proud of Austin, who takes his volunteer jobs very seriously! We hope our readers will take as many opportunities as possible this month – and always – to include individuals with different abilities in your work, volunteer, and communities.
